Pep Squad (Cheerleaders)Cheerleading is an activity which supports the sports programs at Chico High School. Cheering for fall and winter sports helps boost school spirit and develops leadership and communication skills, strength and agility. Cheerleaders practice daily and attend football and boys' basketball games and some volleyball and soccer games. Cheerleaders also help promote spirit by attending rallies, making locker tags, painting posters, holding fundraisers, participating in some community events and possibly competing in various competitions. This activity is physically and emotionally demanding as well as very time consuming, but cheerleading is also fun. The cheerleading philosophy at Chico High has these objectives: 1. To lead cheers and to raise the fan support level for interscholastic athletics; 2. To participate in the activity known as cheerleading by performing gymnastics, partner stunts, motions pyramids and dance movements; and 3. To serve as public relations ambassadors of Chico High and to promote interscholastic athletics at Chico High School. Tryouts are announced each spring in the Daily Bulletin.
