Practices:
While the Varsity squad will begin practices in July, our official practices begin the week before school begins. Our first official practice will be at 9:00 AM, Monday, August 11, 2025, at Chico High School on the southeast corner of campus where Esplanade and Lincoln Ave cross. The grassy area there is our "home-base" for Cross Country practices all season long. Wear running clothes, bring a water bottle, and be ready to do some running. Newer runners will start with shorter distances while more veteran runners will go longer. There will also be team building exercises and snacks so come ready to be a part of a long and successful tradition!

Once school starts, we will meet at 3:45 pm in the same spot. Be sure to come changed and ready to run. We will have a place to store backpacks if your student hasn't gotten a locker for PE yet. All athletes must be cleared with physical and health insurance before that first day, or they will be unable to practice.
From then on, we will have practice all school days as well as a few races/practices on weekends. All practices are mandatory and must be attended with some exceptions for injury and sickness. For races, we have boys and girls, varsity and junior varsity divisions at each contest.

After once again winning a North Section Championship last November, Chico High Cross Country is looking forward to growing our team this fall and introducing our sport to a whole new group of Chico High students!
We welcome student-athletes of all experience levels and have years of success helping runners of all abilities become successful members of our team. If you are interested, we would love to have you as part of the squad.
We do not make cuts and everyone is welcome to join CHS Cross Country as long as athletes come ready to work hard and be a member of a quality team.
With so many young people feeling disconnected and anxious, joining interscholastic sports, especially one as inclusive as cross country, can help students make lifelong friendships and can give everyone a chance to be a part of something larger than themselves. Team and individual goal setting provide the opportunity to have the focus and purpose to achieve something real that matters and which will create memories you can look back on for the rest of your life.
