CSU Chico - Programs for High School Students

High School Scholars (HSS) - Fall 2018

The High School Scholars (HSS) program is an excellent opportunity for high school students to take up to two courses at California State University, Chico for a nominal $58 fee¹. The objective of the program is to offer service area students access to college courses that have not been filled by regularly enrolled Chico State students.

Student Requirements: (Applicable to NEW and RETURNING participants; no exceptions):

• Attend a mandatory HSS Orientation session to receive a HSS application and other important documents.
If you have participated in the program before or attended a previous orientation, you do not have to attend again.

• Be enrolled in the 11th or 12th grade of a local admission area2 high school (AY 2018-2019)

• Possess at least a 3.0, non-weighted, academic, high school GPA (both 9-12 and 10-12)

• If applicable, be in good academic standing at any college or University of current or previous attendance

• Satisfy any prerequisites or eligibility requirements for the intended course(s) as published in the University Catalog

• Submit a properly completed and signed HSS application, required documents, Add Request Form(s), and

$58 fee1 by the established deadlines

• Must be a California Resident to participate in HSS

•HSS participants cannot be concurrently enrolled in courses through Open University

Note: It will take 2-3 business days to complete the HSS matriculation process after approved Add Request Forms and fees are submitted. During this time, students will not have access to their Chico State Portal or online Blackboard Learn system.

Labor Day. Campus closed
 Sept. 21
Census date. No adding, dropping of classes, or changing of grade option beyond
this date without a serious and compelling reason approved by the instructor,
department chair, and college dean.
 Nov. 12 
Veteran’s Day. Campus closed.
 Nov. 19-23    
Thanksgiving Break. No classes held.
Final Exam Week. Modified class schedules; students will need to notify their high
school of their final  exam schedule as course sessions are typically offered at different
times. See Final Examination  Schedule in the Student Portal at www.csuchico.edu.

1. The CSU makes every effort to keep student costs to a minimum. Fees listed may need to be increased when public funding is inadequate. Therefore, CSU must reserve the right, even after initial fee payments are made, to increase or modify any listed fees, without notice, until the date when instruction for a particular semester or quarter has begun. All CSU listed fees should be regarded as estimates that are subject to change upon approval by The Board of Trustees.

2. The California State University, Chico local admission area includes Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Plumas, Shasta, Siskiyou, Sutter, Trinity, Tehama and Yuba Counties.
